Lt. Governor Skillman Awards Jay Ellis of Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. with Indiana Main Street Staff Member of the Year Award

Jay Ellis and Lt. Govenor Becky Skillman Lt. Governor Becky Skillman awarded Jay Ellis, the Director of Jeffersonville Main Street, Inc. with the 2009 Indiana Main Street Staff Member of the Year award during a ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse on Friday. The Indiana Main Street program provides technical assistance regarding economic revitalization and community development in local downtown districts to participating Indiana cities and towns. The Indiana Main Street program is administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Downtown districts are the heart of Hoosier cities and towns, and they are a key component of any community's economic success, said Lt. Governor Skillman. Each of this year's Indiana Main Street award winners has made a lasting impact by demonstrating their commitment to their local community.

Jay has been the Director of Jeffersonville Main Street, Inc. for 14 years, and during his tenure, he has worked tirelessly to promote smart growth in business and residential housing, as well as the overall health and well-being of Jeffersonville. His commitment to Jeffersonville has made the community a more appealing place to live and work. Jay exemplifies the spirit of Main Street through his willingness to share his stories of success with other main street communities to help them become successful and sustainable. His efforts over the past 14 years have certainly made him an exceptional model for other Indiana Main Street communities.
